Making the invisible half of the web visible

More than half of all web traffic is automated: search crawlers, AI assistants, preview bots, scrapers. It decides your rankings, your AI citations, and a growing share of your customers. And almost nobody can see it. BotSights exists to change that.

Why BotSights exists

BotSights started with a question its founder, an SEO specialist, could not answer for his own websites: is AI reading my content? ChatGPT and Perplexity were clearly citing pages and sending visitors, but Google Analytics showed none of it. The traffic was real; the measurement did not exist.

Server logs held the answer, buried in millions of unlabeled lines. So he built the missing layer: detection that names every automated visitor, verification that checks whether agents are who they claim to be, and a dashboard that turns raw bot visits into decisions about content, crawling, and blocking.

What began as an internal tool for a handful of sites grew into a platform with a public database of 1,900+ bots and agents, used to answer the questions modern site owners actually have: which AI systems rely on my content, is my new work being picked up, and which of my "visitors" are not what they seem?

What we believe

⚖️

Honest data beats confident guesses

Every claimed bot identity is verified against official IP ranges and reverse DNS. There are three outcomes: verified, spoofed, or unverifiable. We never accuse a visitor we cannot check, and we never count a claim we cannot confirm.

🔒

Privacy by design

Human visitors are counted, never tracked. No cookies, no fingerprints, no per-person records. The detailed data is about bots, because bots are the product.

📏

Measured, not estimated

Every number in BotSights comes from a real request to your own site. No panels, no extrapolation, no scraping other people’s claims. If we can’t measure it, we don’t show it.

💡

Insight over alarm

Bots are not a threat to be feared; they are an audience to be understood. Search crawlers decide your rankings, AI agents decide your citations, preview bots reveal your shares. We tell you what their visits mean, and isolate the few that deserve blocking.

Niels is a senior freelance SEO specialist from the Netherlands who has spent his career making websites findable. BotSights is his answer to the next chapter of that work: findability no longer ends at Google. He builds the product, curates the bot database, and runs it on his own sites first, so every feature is tested on real traffic before it reaches yours.
